This is one of my favourite Asterix books for a very simple reason: the banter between the eclectic bunch of conscripts that Goscinny and Uderzo create to accompany Asterix and Obelix as they find themselves conscripted in the Roman Army. The writing and drawing of this motley bunch are both brilliant and the jokes fly thick and fast. One of the best.
