Charlotte Capers (1913-1996) was director of the Mississippi
Department of Archives and History (MDAH) from 1955 to 1969 and was
the first woman to become the head of a state agency in
Mississippi. Her tenure in various staff positions at MDAH spanned
forty-five years (1938-1983).
