Born in 1894, Facey lived the rough frontier life of a sheep farmer, survived the gore of Gallipoli, raised a family through the Depression and spent sixty years with his beloved wife, Evelyn. Despite enduring hardships we can barely imagine today, Facey always saw his life as a 'fortunate' one. A true classic of Australian literature, his simply written autobiography is an inspiration. It is the story of a life lived to the full - the extraordinary journey of an ordinary man.

About the Author

A.B. Facey (1894–1982) was born and grew up on the Kalgoorlie Goldfields and the Wheatbelt of Western Australia. He went out to work when he was eight years old, and was droving in the North-West at fourteen. He had no formal education and originally wrote his acclaimed autobiography, A Fortunate Life, for his family. Roger Cardwell's name has been associated with the Adelaide media for more than 50 years. Throughout the 1960s he was the host and performer of the Australian national TV show Country and Western Hour and Adelaide ADS7 TV show Country Style. Roger was also one of Australia's leading TV news anchor men for over 20 years. His voice was heard regularly on radio, and though it has been a while since he has graced our screens, his listeners at Adelaide’s Burnside Library – where he took part in their book reading program supported by the Royal Society for the Blind – hung on every word.
