Sarah Abbondio is a Danish/Swiss designer who has been interested in creating things since she was very little. She trained as a design engineer and has been working as a independent designer and product developer for several Danish brands.
Her interest in crochet started when her daughter was born and she wanted to create a unique toy for her. Sarah taught herself to crochet and it has been her primary hobby ever since. She lives in Denmark.
From the jungle to the forest to the farm to your home, Abbondio's
crochet book has crafters' need for cute crochet animals covered.
Each of the 26 patterns have clear, easy-to-follow instructions,
but American crocheters will have to "translate" the UK crochet
terms into U.S. stitches before picking up their hook. Other than
that slight hiccup, this book is perfect for crocheters new to
amigurumi. The stitches are mostly single crochet with simple
increases and decreases. Some design elements, such as the lion’s
mane and the cow’s udders, require a slightly more complicated
popcorn stitch. Even those who have never worked in the round
before or made an adjustable ring will find that Abbondio’s
patterns provide a great introduction to that work. Most of the
animals share the same basic body pattern, with the giraffe, mouse,
panda, and hedgehog standing as the outliers; each of these four
has a unique body type. Experienced amigurumi makers will enjoy the
cuteness as they quickly whip up these small and delightful
creatures. A must-have for all library craft collections.
