Moses Hess was both a colleague and protagonist of Karl Marx in the early communist movement, and one of the forerunners of Zionism: he died in Paris in 1875. Shlomo Avineri is one of the most distinguished political scientists in the world: his many publications include the classic study of The Social and Political Thought of Karl Marx (Cambridge, 1968).
