The Oresteia Trilogy: Agamemnon, The Libation Bearers, The Eumenides. Whilst preserving a scholarly fidelity to the original Greek, the translation is written in a clear and energetic verse, designed to be as 'performable' in the theatre, as it is 'readable' in the home or study.
Andy Hinds has been a theatre director, playwright and acting teacher for thirty years, and for ten years was Artistic Director of Classic Stage Ireland. He has lectured for a number of years on classic European Theatre at the Drama Studies Centre at UCD and recently conducted a series of Masterclasses in 'Acting Shakespeare' at Shakespeare's Globe in London.
This translation brilliantly meets all the criteria (of accuracy
and performability) very close to Aeschylus…yet also lucid, lithe
and supple…a performance text
