Ray Marshall began his paper-engineering career in 1980, and in
1985 he won England's Smarties Prize for Children's Books Award for
Watch It Work! The Car. The Castaway Pirates was his first book for
Chronicle Books. He lives with his wife and two daughters in San
Francisco
