This book is actually an abridgement of Napoleon Hill's original book and is far inferior to a new edition that has recently been published. The new edition is "Think and Grow Rich!: The Original Version, Restored and Revised." It is edited and annotated by Ross Cornwell and published by Aventine Press. (ISBN 1593302002) The new book contains extensive endnotes, a wonderful appendix, an extremely useful index, and is a trade paperback, much larger than this small mass market paperback. This smaller version (originally published in 1960) has none of these features.

I must confess, I have only read the first 5 chapters of this book, a library copy, but I have been so taken not just by the idea but the results that I felt that I just had to have my own copy. The book, as the title suggests, is about becoming rich. But before one discounts it as just an "improve your financial fortunes" book, you'd best consider that this term can be understood in a wider sense than just monetary wealth. In fact, subtle double meanings and blatant repitition are central writing devices the author employs to drive home the main point. But I won't spoil it for you, as "getting it" is the most valuable part of this book. The book might have as easily been found in the self-help section, or under theology, or quantum mechanics, as the author draws on central universal principles, which are really quite straight forward to any moderately reflective individual. The kicker however, is finding out that these same principles, refined through some deliberate techniques, are in essence the same ones that propelled the likes of Carnegie, Edison, and a whole host of other success stories to the pinnacle of whatever they set out to achieve. The result of reading the very many stories the author quotes, of people who have left their mark in history, if not on their ledger, gradually gives one the proof required to take these principles off teh shelf and into your lap. I have applied the principles myself, albeit over a short time frame, but can already see the difference. It is one of those books you are either ready for, or not. Enjoy it. I did.

Napolean Hills think and grow rich is the ultimate book for those dedicated to success in all areas in life. Different from spiritual books where "wealth" is considered meditation and enquiry, Think and Grow rich applys to the modern person, in the modern age with a 12-step to-the-point system of how to achieve the state of mind required to achieve success, mental and material. Although the book was written originally in the 1930's readers will find it gives them inspiration for higher living as it has for me. Although I do much prefer spiritual philosiphy now, this is the first book i read that opened my mind and got me started...so i highly recommend this book!!
