It's back to Discworld for a new Tiffany Aching Adventure, Wintersmith by Terry Pratchett. In a starred review of The Wee Free Men, PW called the witch-in-training "funny, sassy and spirited." Here Tiffany unwittingly attracts the attention of the titular spirit of Winter when she interrupts the Dance of the Seasons-and must enlist the aid of the six-inch Wee Free Men to put Nature back in order. The publisher is simultaneously repackaging the first two paperbacks to tie into this third adventure: The Wee Free Men and A Hat Full of Sky, with the same ISBNs. This is the third Tiffany Aching / Nac Mac Feegle novel or the umpteenth "Witches" novel depending on how you look at it. Nanny Ogg and Granny Weatherwax both play large roles in this story (much larger than the Granny Weatherwax appearances in the previous novels anyway) and it made me realise how much I missed them. Terry Pratchett seems very taken with Tiffany Aching to write so many recent novels based on the character and it isn't difficult to see why.

The third book in this series within a series Tiffany is in trouble again because a god of winter has fallen in love with her. making icebergs shaped like sinking ships. and all the snowflakes with her face. the Wee free men come to her rescue again with their typical humour. I always loved the witches and they are even better here. Some of Prachett's books are hard to get into but this is his best series for easy reading.

This book is brilliant! I couldn't put it down! Terry Pratchett has this annoying habit of making me laugh out loud (really loud!) in public places! I just love those little blue Nac Mac Feegles! At work my friend and I have started crying out "Waily waily!" for no apart reason! They seem to have us women sussed out as well with our pursin' of the lips, foldin' of the arms and the tappin' of the foot. I think maybe the world needs more little blue men!!! I like most of Terry Pratchett's books but really like certain characters more than others. This book has the Nac Mac Feegles back for a third time along with the Grannies who I adore, such fantastic characters. Poor Tiffany has a lot to deal with in this book, not only does she have to deal with the Grannies checking out her head, the Nac Mac Feegles checking out her diary but boys too! This book is great for children and adults (but I'm not sharing my copy with anyone!)
