The one word that can sum up this movie is "Eye-opener". Wow, what an amazing fascinating movie tinged with sadness, heartache and raw emotion. This is a great watch, and highlights the tragic life of the girls who ended up in the Magdalene laundries. A highly recommended watch.

A poignant and compelling tale of the struggle to survive not only physically but mentally in an asylum for the reformation of digraces to Irish society. The girls are taken from their homes, with little or no warning and thrust into the foreign environment of the asylum. Where they endure the cruel punishments of the nuns. This was a moving story and all the more compelling for being true.

Very sad, very emotional true story accounting the lives of three women that were sent to the magdalene asylums and their encounters there. this movie was very heart wrenching. and the most amazing thing is that it went on until as recent as 1996. I cant beleive that as advanced as the civilisations have become people can bear to treat other people in this way and call it in the sake of religion. Would recommend, but not for the faint hearted.

This is the film the vatican didn't want made. In ireland, where catholicism is a fantatical faith, many young pregnant women find themselves sent away to convents. This is the story of one which, despite its setting in the 1960's, still operates as a workhouse, where the women work as slaves and are forcefully parted from their children. Tragic true story.
