The title of this 2001 collection is a bit of a misnomer, since it only draws from the Cowboy Junkies' years on the RCA label (1986-1993). However, since that era was the Canadian ensemble's heyday, it still serves as a fine (if not comprehensive) overview. The collection features their gorgeously drowsy versions of the Velvet Underground's "Sweet Jane" and Hank Williams's "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry," along with notable originals such as the spare "Misguided Angel" and the gentle "Ring on the Sill." Throughout these 16 tracks, the cool, plaintive vocals of Margo Timmins and the delicate guitar work of Michael Timmins (her brother and the group's songwriter) are showcased, making this an excellent primer for those unfamiliar with the band's beautifully languid sound.
