Performer Notes
  • Though known in their native Wales as simply the Automatic (the Automatic Automatic is their official name for U.S. releases and appearances), this indie rock quartet makes--no matter the name--a brand of dancey post-punk that fits right in with the trends of the early 2000s. Easily filed next to the likes of Bloc Party, the Futureheads, and Franz Ferdinand, the Automatic Automatic blends bouncy rhythms, angular guitars, and hooky harmonies into a fizzy, familiar style. NOT ACCEPTED ANYWHERE, the group's debut effort, may not stand out from the pack, but it should still please the ears of retro-post-punk fans.
Professional Reviews
Q (p.110) - "[T]hey play sharp indie rock with danceable beats that's anthemic in the right places."

Q (p.121) - Ranked #41 in Q Magazine's "100 Greatest Albums of 2006" -- "[The] album went some way to satisfying the nation's appetite for cheerfully danceable guitar pop."

Alternative Press (p.178) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "[With] crazy rock 'n' roll screams, gang harmonies straight out of a Freddie Mercury opera fantasy, oddball sci-fi sound effects, huge beats and ripping hi-hats..."

Kerrang (Magazine) (pp.48-49) - "An explosion of disco punk riffs and sheer idiot joy....A debut that sounds fresh, urgent, and breathlessly, thrillingly now."
